Resident Teacher

Shah Noentil

Yoga is an integral part of Shah’s life since 2000. She finds herself blessed with the privilege of having studied with many inspiring teachers from various walks of life. Some of the more prominently known Masterji Viswanath, David Muehsam, Rolf Naujokat, Matthew Sweeney and Eileen Hall.

A Singaporean, Shah moved to Shanghai in 2003 to embrace “a change of gear” in her life. With 15 years corporate work experience,Shah decided to trade in twenty-four-seven workdays for family life and deepening her yoga studies.

She considers herself still a humble student with much to learn from her teachers as well as, her students. Having benefited greatly from yoga and her other spiritual studies, Shah’s aspires to share this passion with others for the practice. Her teaching philosophy is to connect to students; compassion to understand their physical & emotional struggles; and assist them to achieve whatever yoga means to them. She believes the learning process is a joint two-way process & only possible with mutual trust between student & teacher.

"I started this path wanting to teach asana but discovered they're only one of the many tools. I learnt that love, trust and faith can break barries that no asana can. The BODY is just a physical HOUSE, the BREATH the unseen ELECTRICITY that runs through it but its the LIGHT that we seek to ILLUMINATE the  BEAUTY in it. Only  YOU, can choose to turn on the light, but its my humble hope to be part of your journey to finding it."

 Stanley Alim

My journey in Ashtanga, I discovered yoga when I was recuperating from severe leg injuries sustained in a traffic accident in 1999. Back then, my life was devastated but yoga's therapeutic nature helped me to keep fit in all aspects of physicality and spirituality despite the physical limitations during this healing period.

After my recovery, I continued yoga practice and incorporated it into my daily regime to seek a more holistic form of lifestyle. Yoga has not only helped me to recover from my injuries, it has provided me with more peace and inner sanctity. My immense passion and interest for yoga also drove me to further explore and enrich my yoga knowledge in Mysore, to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the eminent Ashtanga guru and his grandson, Sharath Rangaswamy in year 2002.

It has been then become a yearly ritual to return to the source for self-improvement and inspiration. I have also received blessing from guruji to teach the Ashtanga system in Singapore where I live and have my own dedicated shala where I continue to share my passion and the benefits of Ashtanga system with others. As of now I would like to seek and deepen my knowledge in all aspects of yoga like philosophy, energy works and anatomy knowledge which surpasses the common misconception that Ashtanga yoga is purely physical. It is this core knowledge that I hope to impart to my students when I teach. To me Ashtanga is not about pushing one’s physical boundaries but rather about self-discovery into one’s heart.
